I have been a certified Healing Touch Practitioner through Healing Beyond Borders since 2018. I graduated from Cumberland Institute of Holistic Therapies in Brentwood, TN in 2022 studying Massage Therapy. I received my License #14518 in 2023.
I firmly believe that most of our physical ailments come from inflammation in the body. When we balance the energy in our body, we reduce the inflammation as well. This causes us to do what we naturally want to do - work perfectly. I believe that utilizing the energizing, heart centered benefits of Healing Touch and the balancing, relaxing benefits of massage in conjunction with traditional medicine, the body can and will heal itself.
In 2014, I was working in insurance at a local hospital and became frustrated with the way we handled our patients. We spent a lot of time, energy, and money fixing symptoms but not really addressing the actual causes of the ailments. Shortly after that, I took a job managing data for oncology clinical trials. The standard of care for most oncology patients is treatment that completely tears the body down. The facility I worked with would offer integrative therapies, but none were considered standard of care and very little of this was covered by insurance or fully embraced as a part of care. Around this time, my parents both became seriously ill, and I watched as one parent took the traditional route and the other searched for holistic options to supplement traditional medicine. The one that added Healing Touch, Massage, Acupuncture and Yoga to the mix handled the side effects of medicine better, healed from surgery more quickly, and had an overall better emotional experience through the illness.
This inspired me to become a Healing Touch practitioner. I began working with cancer patients to deal with their nausea, fatigue, and neuropathy. In the course of working with these patients, I developed a technique specifically for neuropathy that has proven to be beneficial for other causes of neuropathy as well. As a result of caring for several family members through their palliative and hospice care, I began working with people during their final phase of life. I've seen first-hand how Healing Touch benefits the client's emotional and spiritual dispositions and can help lessen the need for pain medication during this precious time.
After a while, I saw where learning different modalities could help my clients, so I went back to school to become a massage therapist. This additional education has allowed me to create integrative plans for my clients - combining energetic work and hands on body work. It is exciting to watch this powerful combination of modalities encourage and stimulate the body's healing process.
Since receiving my LMT license, I have begun to hone my skills with Cranio Sacral techniques. This type of massage has so many benefits for chronic issues as well as trauma to the body. It has quickly become a favorite technique for my clients. One of my clients said, "It's the strangest, most effective massage I've ever had!" I am using it in conjunction with Healing Touch on my MS, fibromyalgia, and Parkinson clients. All have had a lessening of symptoms and an increase in functionality. I am excited to see how this can help other chronic issues and to learn how to better serve these clients.
Somewhere along the way, I met a wonderful therapist who began referring clients for Healing Touch. She would have them come either right before or after an EMDR session to help the body release the emotion from the issues dealt with in her session. The results we were seeing were remarkable. We began to wonder if the body could somatically release as the EMDR session was remapping the memory. So, we started having joint sessions where both of us work at the same time. These sessions have proved to be very intensive and very healing for the client. I believe this work is a way to provide lasting, holistic healing to trauma. Please see the EMDR page for more information on this new technique.
On a personal level, I enjoy good books, coffee with friends, traveling and baking. I'm a firm believer that we should learn some, laugh some, work some, play some and help some every day. I'm so grateful to be in a profession that allows me to do that just by showing up and being present. I look forward to working with you in your quest for health.
